The role of the trustee is to manage and administer the trust in accordance with the terms of the trust deed, the Trust and Trustees Act and the Code of Conduct of Trustees after consultation with the Council Members, from whom he obtains direction when required to do so by the trust instrument.  The trustee is responsible for achieving the objectives of the Trust by utilizing the Trust assets to best fulfill its charitable purpose.

THE TRUSTEE

JAN SAMMUT has over 25 years experience in the financial services sector during which time he has built a strong repertoire of management and leadership skills. In the past 13 years he has specialised in trusts, estate and corporate advisory services, taxation and international wealth planning. His specialisation consists in the design and implementation of tax efficient asset preservation and management structures which require the use of one or more asset holding vehicles such as Trusts, Foundations, Companies and other legal instruments.

Since February 2005 he has led the department of Trusts, Tax & Fiduciary Services at HSBC Bank Malta plc. He has contributed at senior levels towards the development and management of key banking areas such as Credit, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Credit Control and Wealth Management. Jan is actively involved in the management and governance of wealth structures he helps set up and fulfils the role of director on various company boards. He is a seasoned trustee and a registered tax practitioner. He read law at the University of Malta and Concordia University, completed a Diploma in International Taxation and a Master of Business Administration programme. Jan was admitted to full membership with the Society of Trusts & Estate Practitioners after completing a Diploma in International Trust Management. He is an associate member of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners and a fellow of the Malta Institute of Taxation. Throughout his career Jan also delivered regular training on various professional courses and master programmes relating to fiduciary duties, taxation, banking and Anti-Money Laundering.

Jan has been involved in the management of charitable organizations for over a decade. During this time he has mastered the skills which today help him maximize what is more often than not less than adequate resources whenever he is trusted with achieving the objectives of philanthropic initiatives.
